Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia Announces Leadership for 2009-2010
The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia announces new leadership for 2009-2010.
District Attorney Stephen Kelly of the Brunswick Judicial Circuit will lead the Council as chairman. Solicitor-General Barry Morgan of Cobb County will serve as vice chair; and new council member, District Attorney Patrick Head of the Cobb Judicial Circuit, will serve as secretary.
Other new members named to the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council include Solicitor-General Markette Baker of Troup County; and District Attorney Rick Currie of the Waycross Judicial Circuit.
Members remaining on the Council include District Attorney Stan Gunter of the Enotah Judicial Circuit, District Attorney Tommy Floyd of the Flint Judicial Circuit, Solicitor-General Ben Richardson of Muscogee County, and District Attorney Peter Skandalakis of the Coweta Judicial Circuit.
Under Georgia law, the Council consists of nine members, six of whom are district attorneys and three of whom are solicitors-general. All members serve four-year terms on the Council. Officers include chair, vice chair and secretary.
“I am extremely honored to serve my fellow prosecutors,” said Chairman Kelley. “Georgia’s prosecutors are some of the most professional, dedicated public servants in the country. We are the only voice that many victims will ever have in the justice system. Having taken furlough days this past fiscal year, Georgia prosecutors have stepped up to the plate to help with the economic crisis. This year the Council will face similar challenges requiring difficult decisions. It will be a delicate balance to economize without sacrificing public safety. Each day a prosecutor is not in the courtroom, county jails back up and the case backlog increases.”
