Bridgeman Sworn in as District Attorney of Piedmont Judicial Circuit

Richard K. Bridgeman was sworn in as the new district attorney for the Piedmont Judicial Circuit on Thursday, September 06, 2007, by Governor Sonny Perdue at the Capitol in Atlanta .

“It is my privilege to serve the citizens of the Piedmont Judicial Circuit — comprised of Banks, Barrow and Jackson Counties — as their district a ttorney,” said Bridgeman. “I am excited about the future that we have ahead of us. I have a new vision for a district attorney’s office that focuses on public service, working with our criminal justice partners to vindicate the rights of victims and law-abiding citizens, and seeking justice on each and every case.”

Bridgeman was sworn in at the Governor’s office before an audience of family, friends and colleagues. Members in attendance included Bridgeman’s wife, Genoria; their three children, Joshua, Jasmine and Matthew; Bridgeman’s parents, Bob and Colli Bridgeman; and his wife’s parents, Judy and Charles Anthony. Also in attendance were the sheriffs of the three counties in the Piedmont Circuit—Stan Evans of Jackson County, Charles Chapman of Banks County and Joe Robinson of Barrow County — along with most of the chiefs of police in the circuit.

“As a career prosecutor and former law enforcement officer, I am personally and professionally committed to enforcing the laws of our state in a fair, effective and efficient manner,” said Bridgeman. “I am excited about the opportunity to lead the district attorney’s office in a new direction, build cooperative relationships in the criminal justice community to better serve victims of crime, and restore the trust of our community in the office of the district attorney. I am pleased to continue to be part of Governor Perdue’s vision of a safe Georgia,” said Bridgeman.

Bridgeman has previously served as assistant district attorney for the Mountain, Northern and Piedmont Judicial Circuits of Georgia. He is a member of the National District Attorney’s Association and the District Attorneys’ Association of Georgia. He is an active member of Zion Baptist Church in Braselton. Bridgeman earned his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from the University of Maryland and his Juris Doctor from Georgia State University. Bridgeman and his wife reside in Hoschton, Georgia.
