Victim Witness Coordinator

The Bibb County Solicitor-Generals Office has an opening for an Victim Witness Coordinator. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties are representative of the work required for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Prepares and writes grants.
• Supervises the Victim Witness Assistants.
• Coordinates and Supervises Volunteers from Local Colleges, Universities and Technical Schools.
• Responsible for maintaining and submitting all reports necessary to comply with the terms of our VOCA Grant administered through the Prosecuting Attorneys Council.
• Responsible for Victim Notification from the time the Defendant is arrested.
• Provides assistance to victims and witnesses in cases pursued in State Court.
• Refers victims to appropriate social service, crisis and other counseling resources.
• Works closely with prosecutors and investigator regarding pertinent case and witness information.
• Maintains accurate and confidential records and analyzes statistics.
• Responds to inquiries from victims, witnesses, attorneys, law enforcement, and public.
• Notifies victims and witnesses of status and court events and attends court hearings.
• Assists victims with the completion of appropriate forms to obtain reimbursement; verifies need for restitution.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  The Victim Witness Coordinator must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:

SUPERVISORY CONTROL AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Supervises the Victim Witness Assistants and Post Adjudication Advocate.

TRAVEL:  The Victim Witness Coordinator is required to travel minimally but may be required to do so on occasion.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:   Ability to read and understand written materials. Ability to effectively communicate information to supervisors, employees, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:   Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:   Must be able to effectively communicate orally and in written form in a professional manner in order to give or exchange information, resolve problems, and/or provide service. In addition, this position requires extensive contact with other employees and the general public, often involving problem-solving circumstances.

REASONING ABILITY:  Ability to interpret and understand a variety of forms, reports, manuals, regulations, and other means of instruction and guidance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position requires light demands with intermittent sitting, standing, walking, computer use, and occasional lifting of lightweight objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Preferred Qualifications:

• Proven experience in social services, criminal justice or a related field of at least two years.
• Knowledge of Georgia law and procedures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Experience with personnel administration preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with members of all levels within the organization.
• Demonstrated ability to show good judgment, consistency, timeliness and respect in decision-making.
• Demonstrated ability to achieve results on a timely basis.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple tasks and priorities at one time and consistently achieve results on a timely basis.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Victim Witness Coordinator should possess a BS degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Possession of a valid Georgia Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
• Due to the interaction with and reliance on GCIC and NCIC, the employee must have no felony convictions.
