Attorney
The Office of Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire has an opening for an Attorney. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:
Under supervision, the Attorney provides analysis and recommendations on legal issues within the scope and authority of the agency. Acts as a resource to answer questions and evaluates the status of reimbursements or recoupments. Coordinates and implements due process procedures and procedures for appeals. Participates in the implementation of settlements, agreements, and legal judgments within approved guidelines. Participates in the preparation and coordination of cases prior to and during court trials and administrative hearings.
Prepares grant and contract proposals and administers contracts with funding agencies. Provides research and analysis of legal, policy and environmental issues.
Reviews investigative reports and identifies areas that require further investigation. Provides legal services such as writing articles, drafting or amending legislation, regulations contracts and reviewing documents for legal compliance. Identifies and resolves, or assists in the resolution of, legal problems, liability and risk management issues. Develops, oversees, and implements administrative processes designed to maintain and monitor the legal compliance of department processes and activities.
Preferred Qualifications: Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university AND license to practice law in the State of Georgia OR eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring OR reciprocity (must obtain Law License). Note: Some positions may not allow the eligibility clause.
Salary Range: $61,000.00
