Solicitor General’s Office, Athens-Clarke County
The Office of the Solicitor General, Athens-Clarke County, Georgia has an opening for an Assistant Solicitor General. This position is responsible for prosecuting misdemeanor criminal cases occurring in Athens, Georgia, in State Court as well as Municipal Court. We are looking for an entry level attorney with an interest in criminal law.
Major responsibilities include assisting the Solicitor General in the administration and work of the office; reviewing law enforcement reports, criminal histories, driving histories, videos, warrants and affidavits, crime lab reports, and other relevant information and evidence as necessary to prepare and prosecute cases; ensuring cases are properly investigated for prosecution; preparing accusations and cases for arraignment, hearings, and trial; negotiating cases with pro se defendants, private attorneys, and the Public Defender’s office; handling pretrial and post-trial motions and hearings as necessary; preparing written reports, discovery responses, pretrial and post-trial motions, briefs, orders, letters, subpoenas, and other documents.
Preferred Qualifications: All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. (Applicants with pending results of the Georgia Bar Examination or who will be sitting for the Bar Exam in July of 2019 will be considered). A criminal background check is completed on all candidates. Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of the background investigation. Trial team/trial practice experience from law school and/or any public interest experience is preferred.
