Senior Assistant District Attorney
The Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney is currently accepting resumes for a Senior Assistant District Attorney to work in its Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Unit (DVSA). The DVSA Unit investigates and prosecutes cases involving crimes of domestic violence and adult sexual assault to include domestic violence and sexual assault-related homicides. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: investigating and prosecuting complicated (and sometimes high-profile) physical and sexual abuse cases; reviewing case files and ensuring that all relevant evidence has been secured, properly documented, and organized for efficient disposition of the investigation or prosecution; interviewing lay, expert and law enforcement witnesses; analyzing case files and drafting memoranda concerning charging decisions; presenting cases to grand juries; conducting grand jury investigations; trying cases; researching, writing, and arguing complicated motions; directing and advising investigators, and other law enforcement officers in the handling of complex criminal investigations; reporting to the DVSA Deputy Chief.
Preferred Minimum Qualifications/Requirements: All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be in good standing of another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia; and be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. All candidates are subject to a background check. The ideal candidate must possess five (5) years of legal experience with a demonstrated showing of the ability to try homicides, sexual assaults and/or complex litigation as first chair. Additionally, candidates must have experience working with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and must be able to work independently with minimal direction. Candidates must be able to multitask and work under stressful time constraints.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must have superior legal and analytical skills; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment, while at the same time have the ability to work independently; sole or chief counsel experience trying complex criminal cases; human trafficking experience a plus; strong presentation skills and experience working with presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check.
Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
