Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney-SECAC Unit

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office (DKDA) is currently accepting resumes for a Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney to oversee the Sexual Exploitation & Crimes Against Children Unit (SECAC). The SECAC Unit is responsible for investigating and trying both physical and sexual abuse cases involving children (including child homicides) in the Stone Mountain Judicial Circuit. The unit also prosecutes all human trafficking cases. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Management and supervision of a specialized trial unit consisting of 5 Senior Assistant District Attorneys, 6 investigators, 3 victim advocates and additional support staff.

• Being a direct resource for ADAs, Investigators, Victim Advocates and Trial Assistants to include assistance with trial preparation, motions preparation, indictment drafting, second-chair trial assistance, and other trial-related duties.

• Serving as a liaison between the office and partner agencies to strengthen community bonds and ensure the highest level of victim services

• Maintaining a caseload of complex and/or high-profile cases

• Reviewing case files and ensuring that all relevant evidence has been secured, properly documented, and organized for efficient disposition of the investigation or prosecution

• Locating and interviewing pertinent civilian witnesses and maintaining relationships with those witnesses throughout the duration of the case

• Traveling to crime scenes, evaluating physical evidence, and working closely with Crime Scene Investigators and Forensic Analysts

• Drafting memoranda concerning charging decisions, drafting indictments, and presenting cases to the Grand Jury

• Advising and assisting local and federal law enforcement partners on various legal issues and initiatives through direct case assistance and broader training initiatives

• Representing the District Attorney at meetings, conferences, and community events

• Reporting to the Director of the Special Victims Unit

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; must possess substantial prosecutorial experience in Georgia, and extensive jury trial experience specifically related to crimes against children; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints; must have the ability to work independently; and must be able to work closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies. Prior experience working with child victims and trying child abuse cases is required.
