Investigator-Trial Division Unit

The District Attorney’s Office has an opening for an Investigator in the Trial Division Unit. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

The investigator is part of a court division trial team made up of attorneys, victim-advocates, and administrative staff that work as a unit to investigate, prosecute, and resolve felony cases. The investigator gathers and analyzes facts and evidence to provide the Assistant District Attorneys the information they need to make sound, just decision on cases. This investigation includes reviewing all law enforcement documentation of an incident and identifying evidence and securing it. A successful investigator will have a working knowledge of law enforcement investigations and their documentation. They should have the skills to analyze a case and determine what else needs to be done, with what priority, and then to complete those tasks timely. Much of an investigators work is the locating, interviewing, and subpoenaing of witnesses. Investigators must be proficient with research on individuals and comfortable to complete field work. Investigators often testify in Grand Jury and other court proceedings.

Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: The ideal candidate must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification; possesses a minimum of five (5) years of investigative experience. Must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; three years of experience in criminal justice or criminal investigation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
