Job Title: Paralegal, Pre-Charging Unit
Job Description: The District Attorney’s Office has an opening for a Paralegal in the Pre-Charging Unit. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:
Conducts thorough and impartial investigations to gather evidence used in the apprehension, indictment, prosecution and conviction of law violators at the pre-indictment level on a variety of cases within different units of the District Attorney’s Office. Investigates crimes; obtains police reports, crime scene reports, crime lab reports, complaints, petitions, citations, photos, audio recordings, video recordings, written statements, phone records, medical records, and other accounts of crimes committed; reviews those items for probable cause, for evidence of crimes committed, for witnesses needed for court, and for potential problems in proving the case; compiles an investigative report that summarizes the case facts; ensures that required analysis of evidence has been completed.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements: Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; three years of experience in criminal justice or criminal investigation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: The ideal candidate must possess one to two years of criminal law experience in Georgia; be comfortable with technology; and must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints. The successful candidate must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment, while at the same time have the ability to work independently.
