Appalachian Judicial Circuit

Assistant District Attorney

The Office of the District Attorney, Appalachian Judicial Circuit, is currently accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney to work primarily in Superior Court.

Essential Duties: Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: prosecuting felony and misdemeanor cases in superior court; analyzing case files and drafting memoranda and pleadings concerning charging decisions and legal issues; trying cases; examining and preparing witnesses for trial; planning trial strategy; researching, writing, and arguing motions and court orders; advising law enforcement personnel on various legal issues; negotiating with opposing counsel; and other duties as assigned.

Essential Skills: Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; strong organizational and interpersonal skills; detail-oriented; excellent legal research skills and working knowledge of Lexis-Nexis. Must be able to work well in a team environment; ability to adjust priorities and manage time wisely; and must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.

Minimum Qualifications: A Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Must be member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; have conditional admittance pursuant to the third-year practice act with the State Bar of Georgia; or be in good standing of another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia. Additionally, the applicant must either be admitted or eligible for admission in the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court.

All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
