Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney

The District Attorney’s Office in the Brunswick Judicial Circuit has an opening for a Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney for Jeff Davis and Appling Counties in Baxley, GA. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

• Manages and directs the activities of 6 assigned staff; coordinates, prioritizes and assigns tasks and projects; tracks and reviews work progress and activities; provides input for potential disciplinary action;
• Conducts performance evaluations with assigned ADAs; provides input for performance evaluations of support staff;
• Ensures appropriate scheduling of staff to ensure proper operational coverage;
• Recommends selection of staff; assists with staff training and with their professional development;
• Assists in the development and implementation of District Attorney goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for the department;
• Analyzes evidence presented and determines whether or not to seek an indictment, file an accusation or where or not more evidence is needed;
• Reviews law enforcement reports to determine charges to be filed; prepares
Indictments and accusations; confers with law enforcement officers and witnesses; negotiates with defense attorneys; prepares motions and other pleadings for court; prepares cases and witnesses for court; appears in court; conducts hearings and trials; advises police and probation officers;
• Interprets and applies laws, court decisions and other legal authorities for use in preparation of cases, opinions and briefs
• Prepares pleadings and other legal documents in connection with trials, hearings and other legal proceedings;
• Prepares written legal reports, opinions, briefs, and appeals;
• Advises law enforcement officers and others on criminal proceedings and procedures;
• Contributes to the overall quality of the office’s performance by developing and coordinating work teams and by reviewing, recommending and implementing improved policies and procedures;
• Represents the County and Circuit with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.

Minimum qualifications: All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be in good standing of another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia; and be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Preferred Qualifications: Previous supervisory experience in a District Attorney’s Office preferred.

Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience  + County Supplement
