Assistant Solicitor General
The Carroll County Solicitor’s Office has an opening for an Assistant Solicitor General. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:
• Reads and researches case law in anticipation of legal issues that may arise.
• Reviews discovery to determine what evidence it needed for the prosecution of cases.
• Prepares motions, files motions, and argues motions before court.
• Develops trial strategy, prepares cases for trial, and conducts trials before judges and juries.
• Researches appellate issues and handles appeals pending before the court including writing briefs.
• Evaluates cases to determine appropriate sentencing offer.
• Negotiates pleas and resolutions for cases with defense attorneys and pro se defendants.
• Interviews witnesses and victims.
• Attends court, assists court with pleas and sentencing.
• Supervises and advises staff in their duties.
• Answers questions from public, defendants, and attorneys arising out of traffic and misdemeanor cases.
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred education and experience: Juris Doctorate supplemented by at least two (2) years experience that includes litigation and trial work. Internships, externships, and certain extra curricular activities (such as STLA) may count toward experience. Candidates for this position should be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, and a drug screen; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience.
