Cobb Judicial Circuit
Assistant District Attorney
The Cobb Judicial Circuit is seeking a highly motivated and proactive attorney to work in its White Collar/Adult Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation Unit as an Assistant District Attorney. This prosecutor will have the opportunity to work with specialized White Collar units from local law enforcement agencies to investigate fraud, to include: Unemployment insurance fraud, Auto insurance fraud, HOA fraud, Healthcare fraud, financial crimes and more.
This is also an opportunity for this prosecutor to work closely with a select group of dedicated law enforcement officers and Adult Protective Services investigators who investigate reports of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of older persons (65+) or an adult (18+) with a disability who do not reside in long-term care facilities.
The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:
• Review reports submitted by law enforcement to determine whether further investigation is needed; approve or return cases for additional work; research alternative crimes; read and research case law.
• Draft accusations and indictments; evaluate and research potential defenses; negotiate pleas to dispose of cases; dismiss cases not prosecutable; draft, review, and edit search warrants.
• Manage caseload; Develop trial strategy for each case, present cases to grand jury and petit jury; question witnesses; answer juror’s questions; determine appropriate sentence recommendations; call arraignment calendars; attend pre-trial conferences with judge and defense attorneys.
• Subpoena appropriate witnesses for motions; research and argue all pretrial and post-trial motions; file motions in appropriate time frame prior to trial. Comply with discovery requirements.
• Observe crime scenes and attend meetings with the multi-agency task force – Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI).
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate must exercise discretion with sensitive information, possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment, while at the same time have the ability to work independently; must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.
Minimum qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; must possess a minimum of 3 years of prosecutorial experience in Georgia, and felony jury trial experience; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints; must have the ability to work independently; and must be able to work closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies.
