Investigator-Anti Corruption Unit
The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office has an opening for an Investigator in its Anti-Corruption Unit. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:
The investigator is part of a Special Unit made up of attorneys, investigators, and paralegals that work as a team to investigate, prosecute, and resolve complex white collar crimes, complex cyber-crimes, crimes against county or governmental entities, crimes involving county employees during the course of their employment, excessive use of force cases, and officer involved shootings. The investigator gathers and analyzes facts and evidence to provide Assistant District Attorneys with information needed to make sound, just decisions in cases. Investigations include reviewing all law enforcement documentation of an incident, identifying evidence and securing it, completing investigations begun by law enforcement agencies, and expanding investigations [e.g. “following the money” or identifying RICO co-conspirators]. A successful investigator needs a working knowledge of law enforcement investigations and documentation. He/she needs the skills to analyze a case and determine what must to be done to make a case trial ready in a timely manner. Odyssey is the DA’s office data collection program. A successful investigator ultimately needs facility using investigatory technology available through CLEAR, Cellebrite, and RMS. Also an investigator will use white collar investigatory tools available through IC3 (Internet Crime Complaint Center), LINX (Law Enforcement Information Exchange), ROCIC (Region Organized Crime Information Center), IAFCIA (International Association of Financial Crime Investigations Association), FINCEN (Financial Crimes Enforcement Network) and GROC (Georgia Retailers Organized Crime Alliance).The investigator must be proficient with research on individuals, interviewing techniques, and field work. The investigator will often testify both before the Grand Jury and during trials. When called upon, the investigator will also be a specialized resource for law enforcement agencies.
Preferred Qualifications: An Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field; five years of experience in criminal investigations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities: The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must be certified by the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) and must maintain this certification; and must have a minimum of five (5) years of investigative experience. He/she also must be able to multitask and work, occasionally, under stressful time constraints. Previous experience with white collar and/or cyber-crimes desirable.
