Assistant Solicitor-General - Special Victim Unit

The DeKalb County Solicitor-General’s Office in the DeKalb Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Assistant Solicitor-General in the Special Victim Unit. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Trying domestic violence, and adult sexual assault cases.
• Maintaining an active case load of high-profile or complex cases, or any case at the direction of the Solicitor-General, or Chief Assistant Attorney.
• Assisting with continuing education for unit members on both domestic violence and adult sexual assault topics.
• Serving as a liaison between the office and partner agencies to strengthen community bonds and ensure the highest level of victim services.
• Working closely with detectives to investigate and strengthen domestic violence and sexual assault cases in DeKalb County.
• Locating and interviewing pertinent civilian witnesses and maintaining relationships with those witnesses throughout the duration of the case.
• Drafting memoranda concerning charging decisions, drafting indictments, and presenting cases to the Grand Jury.
• Reviewing and approving or denying state court transfers and intra-office transfers when needed.
• Advising and assisting local and federal law enforcement partners on various legal issues and initiatives through direct case assistance and broader training initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; must possess substantial prosecutorial experience in Georgia, and extensive jury trial experience; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints; must have the ability to work independently; and must be able to work closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate must have at least 3 years of experience dealing with Domestic Violence cases and possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment; must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.
