Victim Witness Advocate
The DeKalb County Solicitor-General’s Office is looking for Advocates to join our Team!
******You must have experience in Advocacy working with Victims of Crime. *******
The duties of this position include the following:
This position will work closely with victims and/or witnesses of a crime to guide them through the Victim/Witness Advocacy Program.
- Assists victims in providing information and testimony to law enforcement and during court proceedings; provides assistance to investigators and prosecutors for initial and ongoing contact with the victim for interviews and trial preparation; ensures victim contact information remains accurate for continuation of services; assists victims in preparing victim impact statements, letters, restitution forms, Victim Compensation applications, clemency hearings, and executions; arranges follow -up services to victims or their families at hospital facilities, coroner’s offices and/or funeral homes; ensures personnel availability during interviews; provides necessary emotional support to the victim and their family throughout the judicial process; and assists with court hearings by providing necessary services.
- Maintains the safety and security of crime victims; assists victims with safety planning; conducts risk assessment to determine potential and level of danger; coordinates communication with necessary professionals; prompts the necessary actions within the system to expedite a case for victim protection: provides information and advocacy for Temporary Protective Orders; and communicates with the victim regarding defendant’s release from jail.
- Coordinates community social services and referrals for victims; conducts a need assessment. determines needed social services and programs; provides referrals to and coordinates services with agencies such as crime scene clean up, food, shelter, support groups, medical care, crisis/emergency intervention and long-term therapy/counseling; provides information and assists with applications and documentation regarding property return, compensation and restitution, social services assistance programs, immigration and leases; and advocates for victims with bill collectors, employers, school administrators, etc.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Social Work or related field required; three years of experience in victim and witness advocacy and support; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.
Salary Range: $60k-$68k
