Assistant Solicitor General - Traffic Division
The Dekalb County Solicitor-General’s Office is looking for Attorneys to join our Traffic Division team. The Traffic Prosecuting Attorney represents the State in the prosecution of misdemeanor traffic offenses, county ordinance violations, and related matters in State Court. This position is responsible for reviewing citations, preparing cases for court, negotiating resolutions, conducting trials, and working with law enforcement agencies to ensure effective prosecution and compliance with applicable laws and procedures.
Duties Include but are not limited to:
Case Review & Preparation
Reviews traffic citations, arrest reports, accident reports, and supporting evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies.
Determines appropriate charges and evaluates the legal sufficiency of cases.
Prepares cases for arraignment, motions hearings, bench trials, and jury trials.
Issues subpoenas for witnesses, including law enforcement officers and civilian witnesses.
Courtroom Prosecution
Represents the State in traffic court proceedings, including arraignments, calendar calls, motion hearings, and trials.
Presents evidence, examines and cross-examines witnesses, and makes legal arguments before the court.
Negotiates plea agreements with defendants or defense counsel consistent with office policies and public safety objectives.
Makes sentencing recommendations to the court.
Minimum Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Active membership in good standing with the Georgia State Bar.
Ability to obtain authorization to practice in State Court within the jurisdiction.
Strong legal research, writing, and courtroom advocacy skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior prosecutorial experience or experience handling traffic or misdemeanor cases.
Familiarity with traffic laws, DUI statutes, and rules of evidence.
Experience conducting bench and jury trials.
Salary Range: $90k-$100k
