Investigator
The Dekalb County Solicitor-General’s Office is looking to hire Investigators II to join our team. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:
- Leads and coordinates daily work activities of assigned staff.
- Confers with supervisors regarding work assignments and priorities.
- Organizes tasks to ensure timely completion of assigned work.
- Monitors work in progress and reviews completed assignments.
- Assists co-workers with complex or problem situations and provides technical expertise.
- Assists with training staff on department policies and procedures.
- Provides supervisory support by reporting employee issues and assisting with disciplinary actions and performance evaluations.
- Assists Assistant Solicitors in conducting investigations and preparing cases for trial.
- Reviews case files and identifies investigative tasks.
- Drafts and executes search warrants and court orders for evidence collection.
- Collects, secures, and analyzes evidence while maintaining chain of custody.
- Assists with interviewing victims and witnesses.
- Surveys, photographs, and sketches crime scenes.
- Utilizes investigative tools, databases, resources, and programs to obtain information.
- Compiles witness lists and consults with Assistant Solicitors regarding trial strategies.
- Testifies in court as required.
- Identifies, locates, and serves subpoenas to complainants, suspects, victims, and witnesses involved in felony cases.
- Ensures court appearances of lay and professional witnesses.
- Researches and creates witness files.
- Works to obtain full victim and witness cooperation.
- Coordinates witness accommodations, including travel and lodging.
- Drafts material witness warrants as needed.
- Coordinates with fugitive units to apprehend witnesses when necessary.
- Coordinates schedules for court appearances.
- Transports and provides security for attorneys, victims, victim advocates, and witnesses.
- Escorts attorneys during interviews and crime scene visits.
- Provides courtroom security.
- Escorts attorneys, victims, advocates, and witnesses to and from trial proceedings.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminology or criminal justice required; two years of experience in
investigation, law enforcement, criminology or related field; or any equivalent combination of
education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities
for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s
license; and must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council
(POST) certification.
Data Utilization: Requires the ability to evaluate, audit, deduce, and/or assess data using established
criteria. Includes exercising discretion in determining actual or probable consequences and in
referencing such evaluation to identify and select alternatives.
Human Interaction: Requires the ability to work with and apply principles of persuasion and/or
influence over others to accomplish goals, and to resolve typical problems associated with the
responsibilities of the job; requires the ability to provide semi-formal training to others in specific
areas using furnished teaching materials; and requires the ability to act as lead person or team
leader, providing guidance to a work unit, coordinating activities, and reviewing work of the unit.
