Special Trial Assistant Supervisor
The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office seeks an experienced, highly organized, and proactive Special Unit Trial Assistant Supervisor to oversee the operational, administrative, and case‑management work of trial assistants assigned to specialized units. Additionally, this individual will be the Operations liaison for requests related to specific locations occupied by the office. The Supervisor will be a member of the Operations team and report directly to the Senior Systems Administrator and the Deputy Director of Data and Technology. This is a leadership role for a detail‑oriented professional with deep experience in legal, court, or criminal‑justice administrative work.
This position provides day‑to‑day supervision, training, quality assurance, workflow coordination, and performance monitoring for Special Unit Trial Assistants. The Supervisor will support units handling complex and sensitive criminal cases—including, but not limited to, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (DVSA), Child Crimes Unit (CCU), and Homicide/Gangs Unit (HGU).
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Supervise Special Unit Trial Assistants responsible for preparing documents, maintaining case files, processing discovery, scheduling, and coordinating with attorneys and court counsel.
• Provide onboarding, ongoing training, coaching, and professional development for trial assistants across the office.
• Review, evaluate, and enhance administrative workflows; implement process improvements to increase quality, efficiency, and compliance.
• Maintain quality control standards for electronic and physical filing systems, database updates, and case calendars.
• Provide direction for trial assistants who are responsible for ordering and organizing files for arraignments, pre-trial hearings, motions calendars, probation revocations, and bond hearings, as well as provide backup support as needed.
• Support trial assistants in analyzing work problems, determining solutions, and escalating matters when necessary.
• Provide coverage for special unit trial assistants during absences or vacancies.
• Facilitate effective communication between trial assistants, prosecutors, court staff, judges’ staff, and external agencies.
• Responsible for overseeing all operations and facilities requests at the One West Court Square location and other privately owned office space, including monitoring, coordinating, and managing maintenance needs in collaboration with private property management companies and external vendors.
• Maintain and oversee the inventory of office supplies and ensure timely ordering of supplies for the One West Court Square location.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Associate degree in Administrative Professional Studies, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a legal, court, or criminal‑justice environment; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated expertise in managing high‑volume, time‑sensitive criminal case workflows and ensuring accurate, timely case updates.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Odyssey, JCATS, GCIC procedures, and internal/external reporting systems.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and uphold the ethics of the District Attorney’s Office.
