Senior Assistant District Attorney
The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office (DKDA) is currently accepting resumes for a Senior Assistant District Attorney to work in its High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas Unit (HIDTA). This position will work directly with members of local, state and federal law enforcement. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Working closely with HIDTA personnel to investigate and strengthen drug trafficking cases in DeKalb County
• Advising and assisting local and federal law enforcement partners on various legal issues and initiatives
• Locating and interviewing relevant civilian witnesses and maintaining relationships with those witnesses throughout the duration of the case
• Drafting memoranda concerning charging decisions, drafting indictments, and presenting cases to the Grand Jury
• Constructing all case files, to include but not limited to: jail calls, police reports, body worn cameras, audio and video surveillance, drug lab reports and witness statements
• Conducting bond hearings on HIDTA cases
• Reporting to calendars and trying complex drug trafficking cases across the ten Divisions of Court in DeKalb County
• Overseeing wiretaps (review of documents, presentation to the District Attorney and Judge, consultation during execution)
• Assisting with requests from local, state and federal law enforcement for search warrants, cell phone pings, pen-registers, trap and traces, and GPS trackers
• Must keep current on constantly evolving law regarding wiretaps, search warrants and confidential informants
• Must be accessible after hours to address questions/request from agents in the field
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; should possess substantial prosecutorial experience in Georgia, and extensive jury trial experience in this area of law; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints; must have the ability to work independently; and must be able to work closely with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work independently and in a team environment; must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, and a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.
