Victim Witness Advocate
The Gwinnett County Solicitor-General’s Office is looking to hire a Victim Witness Advocate. Their duties consist of, but not limited to, the following:
The role of the Victim Advocate is to provide support and assistance to all assigned victims of crime. The Victim Advocate informs victims of their rights under the law, provides referrals for available community resources, assists with navigation through the stages of the criminal justice process, educates on avenues of compensation and facilitates any additional assistance that may be required. Duties can and may include assisting crime victims with referrals to support services, completing medical release forms, restitution requests, applying for Victim Compensation Benefits, Temporary housing relocation, obtaining temporary protective orders and safety planning preparation.
The Part-time Intake Victim Advocate’s role will focus primarily on initiating victim contact on all newly referred victim cases assigned to the Gwinnett County Solicitor-General’s Office. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
• The Intake Victim Advocate will provide victims with a well-informed introduction to victim services within the criminal justice system, complete a documented victim intake assessment interview and will inform and refer victims to viable community resources based on the identified needs of the victim.
• Upon completion of the documented victim intake assessment interview, the Intake Victim Advocate will then refer the case to an assigned Investigator for work-up completion.
• The Intake Victim Advocate will advise assigned crime victims that an Ongoing Victim Advocate will eventually be assigned to their case, and the Intake Victim Advocate will continue to provide victim services until case reassignment.
• The Intake Victim Advocate will keep a copy of the completed Victim Assessment form and will then review it with the Ongoing Victim Advocate assigned to the case; to ensure a soft handoff that fosters an environment of effective, continuity of victim services.
Preferred Qualifications: Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree, superior customer service skills, positive attitude, personal responsibility and a strong sense of responsibility to the community at large. Fluent in Spanish/English (Bilingual) is a plus.
All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
Salary Range: Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
