Managing Assistant District Attorney

The District Attorney’s Office in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Managing Assistant District Attorney. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

  • Reviews reports submitted by law enforcement to determine whether further investigation is needed; approves or returns cases for additional work; researches alternative crimes; reads and researches case law.
  • Drafts accusations and indictments; evaluates and researches potential defenses; negotiates pleas and alternatives to prosecution in order to dispose of cases; dismisses cases not prosecutable.
  • Presents cases to the Grand Jury, participates in Probable Cause hearings
  • Subpoenas appropriate witnesses for motions; researches and argues all pretrial and post-trial motions; files motions in an appropriate time frame prior to trial. Complies with discovery requirements by copying and mailing documents.
  • Calls or designates others to call arraignment calendars as well as various other calendars; attends pre-trial conferences with the judge and defense attorneys.
  • Develops trial strategy for each case, prepares all trial witnesses, trial evidence and presents cases for trial before either a judge or jury. Handles all post-conviction appeals for non-seven deadly cases.

In addition the Managing Assistant District Attorney would be responsible for communications between the Judges Office, Probation Department and other related personal, and the trial team; Direct Supervision and Training on all the above processes for the Trial Line ADA’s; Sitting with and helping prepare the trial line ADA’s while in trial on most seven deadly cases; Ensuring the ADA’s are compliant in their responsibilities and maintaining the case flow within the team; Assures that all matters handled in their division are in accordance with office wide policy and nuances thereof.

Minimum qualifications: All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be in good standing of another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia; and be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.

Salary Range: Salary is dependent on qualifications and trial experience
