Assistant District Attorney

The District Attorney’s Office in the Mountain Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Assistant District Attorney. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

Review reports submitted by law enforcement to determine whether further investigation is needed; research alternative crimes; read and research case law.
Prosecute Delinquency, CHINS (Child in Need of Services) and Traffic cases, within required time frames and pursuant to procedural and other requirements of the juvenile code (O.C.G.A. §15-11-1, et. seq.).

Review juvenile Complaints; evaluate and research appropriate offenses and potential defenses; draft Petitions.
Draft and file motions and orders; argue motions.

Meet with victims and witnesses. Subpoena appropriate witnesses for motions and other hearings.

Develop a disposition strategy for each case; develop plea recommendations and negotiate pleas to dispose of cases or prepare and conduct adjudicatory hearings; dismiss cases not prosecutable.

Determine appropriate sentence recommendations; call arraignment calendars; and attend pre-trial conferences with judge and defense attorneys.

Participate in review and accountability hearings; coordinate with other government agencies with roles in juvenile court proceedings as required for effective and efficient prosecution and overall use of juvenile court resources.

Minimum qualifications: All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be in good standing of another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia, and be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check, and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience. A county supplement may be available.
