Investigator

The Prosecuting Attorneys Qualifications Commission of Georgia (PAQC) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Special Investigator. The PAQC administers the discipline and incapacity system for prosecuting attorneys. The Commission has jurisdiction over every elected or appointed district attorney and solicitor-general regarding allegations of misconduct and allegations of incapacity. The Director conducts preliminary investigations of complaints, during which any investigators assisting the Director should be cognizant in seeking evidence and conducting interviews with the objective of maintaining the confidentiality of the proceeding. The Investigative Panel may then authorize a full investigation. The matter may ultimately be submitted to a separate Hearing Panel. The investigator will create and maintain an investigative file including the statements of the complainant, the witnesses, if any, and the respondent, as well as relevant documents and other evidence. Creating the investigative file will require initiative and investigative skills involving locating and interviewing witnesses, obtaining records from other agencies, court clerks, court reporters, and other private and commercial entities. Analyzing the file will require strong organizational and analytic skills, and will require the exercising of judgement, discernment, and the generation of investigative reports, summaries, and findings. The investigator will assist the Director in preparation and presentation of evidence in hearings. The investigator may be required to testify under oath in hearings. The position is based in Savannah, but will require significant statewide travel, with take home vehicle provided.

This position is not law enforcement, does not carry arrest power, and POST certification is not required. This is a State of Georgia position with State benefits available. Valid Georgia State Driver’s License Required. Drug test and security background check required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree desired; 10 years combined criminal or administrative investigation experience; or any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
