Victim Witness Advocate

The District Attorneys Office is currently accepting resumes/applications for a Victim Witness Advocate in the Rome Circuit. This position will work closely with victims and/or witnesses of a crime to guide them through the Victim/Witness Advocacy Program.

• Utilizes the case management system to initiate and document contact with victims.
• Assists and encourages victim involvement in their case by assessing the victim’s needs, making referrals to appropriate area services, assisting with appointment making and arranging ancillary services.
• Explains criminal proceedings and court processes to victims and witnesses.
• Attends and accompanies victims to court.
• Responds to requests for victim support from other agencies.
• Assists victims with filing petitions for temporary protective orders and warrant applications.
• Notifies victims of the defendant’s bond conditions, case status, upcoming court dates, and outcomes.
• Notifies victims of the rights afforded to them under the Crime Victim’s Bill of Rights (CVBOR).
• Sends surveys to victims periodically to fulfill the Outcome Performance Measurement requirement; Coordinates paperwork and prepares quarterly reports necessary to maintain the Victims of Crime Act (V.O.C.A.) grant each year.
• Responds to Department inquires for assistance.
• Assists with completing and filing victim impact statements and victim compensation forms.

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in psychology, sociology, social work, counseling or a related field and two years of experience working in criminal justice, social services, crisis intervention, or trauma and violence safety assessment and planning. Superior customer service skills, positive attitude, personal responsibility and a strong sense of responsibility to the community at large is preferred. All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; must possess a valid driver’s license. Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology, or related field. Candidates may qualify with any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Salary Range: $17.55 to $28.08 per hour
