Victim Witness Advocate

The Dekalb County Solicitor-General’s Office is currently accepting resumes/applications for a Victim Witness Advocate in State Court. This position will work closely with victims and/or witnesses of a crime to guide them through the Victim/Witness Advocacy Program.

This position is part of NotInMyDeKalb, a domestic violence initiative that provides an advocacy early response to victims of misdemeanor Family Violence cases. The victim advocate provides victims and families with criminal justice support and resources. This position requires participation in community engagements and is located at the South and East Precincts at the DeKalb County Police Department. Preferred skills include experience working with victims of crime, understanding dynamics of domestic violence, knowledge of local community resources, ability to work independently and critical thinking skills. Moreover, strong public speaking skills is a plus.

Responsibilities include; assisting with compensation claims, victim impact statements and advising of available resources based on the Victim Bill of Rights. Knowledge of the judicial process with respect to victims’ rights and case filings; and experience working with prosecutors and law enforcement are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Social Work or related field required; two years of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social justice, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Salary Range: $42K-$52K
