Director - Special Victims Unit

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office (DKDA) is currently accepting resumes for a Director to oversee the various divisions that make up the Special Victims Unit. The Special Victims Unit is comprised of the Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault unit (DV/SA), Sexual Exploitation & Crimes Against Children unit (SECAC), Crimes Against Elder Persons and Adults with Disabilities unit (CAEPAD), the Human Trafficking Investigations grant, and other office initiatives as directed by the District Attorney. Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Management and supervision of the above-specified specialized trial units.

• Supervise the Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorneys that oversee the above-mentioned units.

• Work closely with the Deputy Chief Investigator for the Special Victims Unit and the Director of Victim Services to ensure all cases receive the highest caliber of services across all departments.

• Serve as a liaison between the office and partner agencies to strengthen community bonds and ensure the highest level of victim services.

• Serve on state and local task forces.

• Serve as the chairperson for the DeKalb County Sexual Assault Response Team Protocol committee and the DeKalb County Child Abuse Protocol committee.

• Develop model practices for office protocols in collaboration with office leadership.

• In conjunction with the Director of Grants, seek grant funding to enhance the mission of the District Attorney’s Office.

• Ensure compliance with grant requirements for all SVU grant awards.

• Participate in regular meetings with the District Attorney, Chief Assistant District Attorneys, and other office partners.

• Serve as a direct resource for ADAs, Investigators, Victim Advocates and Trial Assistants to include assistance with trial preparation, motions preparation, indictment drafting, second-chair trial assistance, and other trial-related duties.

• Maintain a limited caseload of complex and/or high-profile cases.

• Advise and assist local and federal law enforcement partners on various legal issues and initiatives through direct case assistance and broader training initiatives.

• Represent the District Attorney at meetings, conferences, and community events.

• Report to the Chief Assistant District Attorney.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; must possess substantial prosecutorial experience and extensive jury trial experience specifically related to crimes against children, sexual assault, domestic violence, and related crimes; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints; must have the ability to work independently; and must be able to work closely with local and federal law enforcement agencies.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment; must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.
