Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office is currently accepting resumes for a Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney (DC) to supervise the Pre-Charging Unit (PCU). PCU is where all cases begin once an arrest of a defendant has been made. The principal duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to supervising five attorneys who handle cases at First Appearance, Preliminary Hearing Calendars, Grand Jury and Unindicted Bond Calendars. This supervision involves overseeing the attorneys and reviewing their case files and ensuring that relevant evidence has been secured, properly documented, and organized to assist in moving the case toward an efficient disposition of the investigation or prosecution; overseeing drafting of memoranda concerning charging decisions; drafting indictments and accusations; presenting cases to grand juries; advising law enforcement personnel on various legal issues; and negotiating with opposing counsel. As a supervisor, it will be expected that the DC will train and assist the attorneys in the Unit; will handle a small case load; fill in for the attorneys, as needed; and review their recommendations as to disposition of cases. The DC will report directly to a Chief Assistant District Attorney.

Preferred Qualifications: Qualifications/Requirements:
The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia; should possess five plus years of prosecutorial experience in Georgia, have some jury trial experience; should have some supervisory experience; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment, while at the same time have the ability to work independently; must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.
