Investigator Pre-Charging Unit (PCU)

The District Attorney’s Office has an opening for an Investigator in the Pre-Charging Unit (PCU). PCU is responsible for investigating all felony cases once the arrest of a defendant has been made and is the beginning of criminal proceedings. The PCU Investigator conducts thorough and impartial investigations to gather evidence used in the apprehension, indictment, prosecution, and conviction of law violators at the pre-indictment level.

Principal duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Reviewing all law enforcement documentation; reviewing case files and ensuring that all relevant evidence has been secured; obtaining related reports, statements, and interviewing witnesses. This investigator must identify, preserve, and provide time sensitive evidence, which may include digital evidence and obtain subpoenas and search warrants when necessary. The investigator must be especially familiar with a variety of investigative platforms and have an understanding of report management systems. This Investigator may be required to testify at Grand Jury and possibly during trials regarding investigative actions and findings.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field; three years of experience in criminal justice or criminal investigation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: The candidate must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) Peace Officer certification; must maintain GCIC certification; must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints; must be willing to work after hours, weekends, and holidays when needed.

Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check and physical/drug screen.
