Investigator - Child Crimes Unit (CCU)

The Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney is currently accepting resumes for an Investigator to work in the Child Crimes Unit (CCU). CCU investigates and prosecutes all cases involving crimes of physical/sexual abuse crimes against children and child homicides.

Principal duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: investigating and prosecuting complicated (sometimes high-profile) physical and sexual abuse cases; reviewing case files and ensuring that all relevant evidence has been secured and/or submitted to the GBI, properly documented, and organized for prosecution; interviewing lay, expert, and law enforcement witnesses; advising law enforcement officers in the handling of complex criminal investigations; coordinating with Assistant District Attorneys, Victim Advocates, and other team members in the review of case files to determine what further investigation is needed; identifying and locating victims and witnesses that are needed for prosecution of the case; participating in the prosecution of cases by attending court, coordinating with victims and witnesses regarding their testimony, preparing exhibits for court, testifying at Grand Jury and possibly during trial regarding investigative actions and findings. This position will work closely with an assigned Assistant District Attorney, Victim Advocate, Trial Assistant, and other unit members. This position reports to the Supervising Investigator of CCU. The position also requires a rotating on-call responsibility for Child Death Investigations.

Preferred Qualifications: Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; three years of experience in criminal justice or criminal investigation; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: The ideal candidate must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) certification.; possesses a minimum of five (5) years of investigative experience with an emphasis in crimes against children. Must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints.
