Director of Communications and External Affairs

The Office of the DeKalb County District Attorney is currently seeking a Director of Communications to lead its Office of Communications.

The Director of Communications is responsible for providing strategic thought-leadership and oversight of internal and external communications efforts. This role is instrumental in maintaining responsive public and media engagement through messaging strategies that inform, educate, and align with the Office’s mission and vision.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Serving as a liaison for public/media inquiries and disseminating related information, as appropriate;
• Auditing media content for accuracy;
• Supervising and executing visual and written content for the Office’s communications platforms, including its website and social media channels;
• Managing and generating content for press releases, newsletters/publications/reports, talking points, and other office and project-specific collateral materials as assigned;
• Oversight of special projects, events/initiatives, and DA speaking engagements;
• Collaborating with law enforcement and criminal justice counterparts on programs, initiatives, and special events;
• Managing the duties and assignments of the Deputy Communications Director;
• Supporting the District Attorney and Executive Leadership team from a comprehensive communications and messaging lens.

Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess strong writing skills, be a creative and strategic thinker; be detail-oriented, self-directed, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in Communications, Mass Media Arts, Public Relations, Journalism, and/or a related field.

Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of a criminal background check. This is a full-time, county-funded position with benefits. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
