Assistant District Attorney

The District Attorney’s Office in the Western Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Assistant District Attorney. This is a hybrid remote position with the opportunity to work the majority from home and then from the office as needed. Periodic attendance in the office is expected after the initial training and acclamation period.

The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

  • Investigating and prosecuting felony and misdemeanor cases.
  • Intake: Review reports/case files submitted by law enforcement, which includes determining whether further investigation is needed and researching whether alternative or additional charges should be considered along with assuring that the necessary witnesses are included.
  • Review chargers listed in warrants and compare the charges to the facts to determine the appropriate charges to be filed.
  • Evaluate and research potential defenses.
  • Draft accusations and indictments.
  • Conducts or assists with preliminary hearings and presentations to grand juries, which includes analyzing the facts and evidence, reviewing criminal histories of defendants, determining appropriate charges, ensuring probable cause exists, and drafting indictments.
  • Conduct research and locate pertinent case law.
  • Work with the trial team (investigators, victim advocates and other District Attorneys): Conduct trial preparation, which includes developing a trial plan and strategy, subpoena appropriate witnesses, filing appropriate motions and assist at trial.
  • Determine appropriate sentence recommendations.
  • Negotiate pleas and resolve cases.
  • Research and respond to motions.
  • Assist with asset forfeiture cases/issues.

You will work as a member of a team with an in-court ADA.

Minimum qualifications: All applicants must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia or be in good standing of another state’s bar association that is eligible for reciprocity admittance to the State Bar of Georgia; and be admitted to practice before the Georgia Supreme Court and Court of Appeals. All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Preferred Qualifications: 3-5 years of experience. Disciplined for remote work and meeting deadlines and be results-oriented.

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience + hiring incentive
