Investigator

The District Attorney’s Office in the Atlanta Judicial Circuit has an opening for an Investigator. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

• Conducts thorough and impartial investigations to gather evidence used in the apprehension, indictment, prosecution and conviction of law violators.
• Works with other law enforcement agencies during investigations; locating & subpoenaing victims/witnesses, completing cases as appropriate; and participating in high risk assignments, including raids, arrests and undercover work.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be a citizen of the United States, have a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent and not have been convicted by any state or by federal government of any crime. Must be a current P.O.S.T certified Georgia Peace Officer or within (12) months of initial employment or appointment as a peace officer, satisfactorily complete the basic course as established in accordance with the rules of the GA P.O.S.T Council (an extension not to exceed three (3) months may be granted by the GA P.O.S.T Council for good cause). Applicants must also demonstrate efficiency with a firearm and possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license.

All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening; employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in criminology, criminal justice or related field, supplemented by six years of experience as a law enforcement officer to include advance specialized training, investigative experience and lead or supervisory experience.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Requires knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws and statutes, court rules and procedures, and methods and techniques used to conduct criminal investigations. Requires knowledge of the geography of the metropolitan Atlanta area. Requires interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interview, interrogate, persuade, or otherwise interact in the course of investigative work.

Salary Range: $51,958.00 – $77,936.00
