Community Resource Specialist

The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office is currently accepting resumes for a Community Resource Specialist.  The following duties are normal for this position but are not limited:

Maintains a personal relationship with families affected by gang-related violence and solicits relationships with families who need assistance with gang prevention. Introduce the Comprehensive Gang Model to a task force that will include law enforcement, city and county officials, school administrators, community and religious leaders. Coordinate quarterly to identify concerns and opportunities for greater effectiveness and engagement.

Assists with grant research and grant application as well as prepare curriculum for Gang related workshops. Work with the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office and Gang and Prevention Coordinator to implement programs that coincide with education with the criminal justice system.

Assist with the Gang coordinator in working with legislators to analyze the effectiveness of gang-related laws, policies and regulations. Coordinate with the aforementioned agencies to formulate and implement the project.

Organize local religious leaders and faith-based organizations to work with former gang members to develop effective strategies to prevent at-risk youth from joining gangs. Assist with the identification of former gang members. Research and identify religious leaders with a passion for working with at-risk youth. Hold meetings to discuss solutions to gang violence and involvement.

A clear understanding of the gang problem and the Comprehensive Gang Model. Social work experience working with culturally diverse communities. Ability to understand community-based programming and influential leadership to bring multiple bodies together for a common purpose. Assist the Gang and Intervention Coordinator in developing a county and regional gang task force for the purposes of information gathering and sharing. Contact and meet with gang coordinators across the southeast. Research and compile a database on best practices to share with law enforcement across Fulton County.

Assist the Gang and Intervention Coordinator working directly with schools, community clubs and grassroots organizations to provide education on gang-related trends that will assist in the proactivity of preventing youth gang activity. Speak to school administrators and schedule trainings for school teachers and staff on gang trends among their student population. Assist in creating and implementing after-school programs or specialized activities at local community centers for at-risk youth.

Compiles and distribute a list of all local gang related resources. In addition, will execute tasks as assigned by the Gang Prevention and Intervention Coordinator.

Preferred Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree required; (Behavioral Science, Social Work, Criminal Justice or related field of studies are preferred) or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Specific Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities: Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in performance of the essential functions and learn, comprehend, and apply all county or departmental policies, practices, and procedures necessary to function effectively in the position. Requires knowledge of federal, state, and local criminal laws; policies and procedures governing Fulton County Superior Court, and methods and techniques related to area of assignment.

Equipment, Machinery, Tools, and Materials Utilization: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.

Verbal Aptitude: Requires the ability to utilize consulting and advisory data and information, as well as reference, descriptive and/or design data and information as applicable.

Mathematical Aptitude: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or synthesis functions; to deal with several concrete and abstract variables; and to analyze major problems that require complex planning for interrelated activities that can span one or several work units.

Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving broader aspects of organizational programs and operations, moderately unstable situations, or the direction, control and planning of an entire program or set of programs.

Other Requirements:
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.
Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
