Criminal Investigator

The District Attorney’s Office in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit has an opening for a full-time Criminal Investigator.

The essential function of the position within the organization is to assist in the investigation and prosecution of felony cases. Under minimal supervision, conducts thorough and impartial investigations to gather evidence used in the apprehension, indictment, prosecution, and conviction of law violators on behalf of the District Attorney’s Office. Work with other law enforcement agencies during investigations; locate & subpoenaing victims/witnesses; complete cases as appropriate; and participate in high-risk assignments, including raids, arrests, and undercover work. Conducts various investigations related to criminal, civil, and juvenile cases as assistant to all the approximately 170,000 citizens in the six counties that comprise the Atlantic Judicial Circuit. Responsible for following and applying the policies and procedures defined in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office general order policies, directives, orders, and memorandums. Must be available to work during duty hours, respond to on-call emergencies, work overtime, and be available to work weekends and holidays. Other duties may be required and assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Must be 21 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen, and cannot have been convicted by any state or by the federal government of any crime.
• Applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree (4 years) from an accredited college or university in criminology, criminal justice, or a related field is preferred, but a bachelor’s degree is required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
• Must have and maintain Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification (Basic) in good standing and PBLE Certification.
• Substantial experience, training, education, and knowledge in law enforcement supplemented by two years of experience required (five years preferred) in a POST certified law enforcement investigative field; or five years of experience required (eight years preferred) in a POST law enforcement non-investigative field. Must also demonstrate efficiency with a firearm.

Must agree to accept an initial duty assignment on a three-month probationary basis, consent to being trained by an Atlantic Judicial Circuit Field Training Investigator/Officer, and submit to a full employment background check. The applicant must establish residency before or after the three-month period in the area of the jurisdiction of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit. (Must be willing to relocate if living outside the boundaries of the Atlantic Judicial Circuit).

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of assembling biological evidence using scientific methodologies.
• Knowledge of equipment, technology, materials, and chemicals used in criminal and crime scene investigations.
• Knowledge of using digital and scientific equipment on a technical level.
• Knowledge of preservation and seizure of cellphones, computers, and media device data as they relate to cybercrime cases.
• Knowledge of social media platforms as evidence in criminal cases and the preservation, search, retrieval, and documentation of these forms of evidence.
• Knowledge of police radio communications and proper public safety radio procedures.
• Knowledge of laws and procedures for Internal Affairs and Use of Deadly Force Investigations.
• Skill in the use of computers and job-related software programs.
• Skill in interview techniques.
• Skill in processing, analyzing, and preserving evidence.
• Skill in sexual assault investigations.
• Skill in crime scene investigations.
• Skill in taking proof imprints like footprints or tire marks.
• Skill in fingerprinting techniques.
• Skill in the use of Protective Service Missions

• Skill in photography and the use of cameras in criminology.
• Skill in firearms proficiency and maintenance.
• Skill in the use of non-lethal weapons.
• Skill in the use of vehicle high-risk driving with blue lights and sirens.
• Skill in the use of being a Field Training Officer for Investigators.
• Skill in using word processing programs, typing, and using a keyboard.
• Skill in the use of maps and GPS technologies.
• Skill in the use of video and audio recording devices.
• Skill in using database research software for researching a criminal or employment history.
• Skill in the use of email software.
• Skill in the use of cell phones.

Salary Range: This is a full-time position with starting annual compensation of $27.82 an hour but negotiable with experience level.
