Open Records Paralegal

The DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a qualified and motivated Open Records Paralegal to join our team. This position serves as the primary administrative specialist to assist the Office’s General Counsel, as the Office’s Open Records Officer, with processing of open records requests and subpoenas for records that are served upon the Office. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil law, administration, exceptional attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and providing excellent internal and external service.

Key Responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary person preparing and processing open records request in a statutory timely manner
• Review and process civil subpoenas and Notice to Produce for records in conduction with open or closed cases
• Have a working knowledge of the Georgia Open Records Act and civil discovery laws
• Deep understanding of processes and policies pertaining to producing documents to the public
• Interact with internal and external partners on document requests
• Assist with effectively communicating with internal leadership, external partners regarding specific issues and tasks undertaken
• Have working understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, time keeping software, electronic databases, high-speed scanner, case management software, file transfer protocols and redacting software
• Able to prioritize between multiple competing tasks and work under high pressure with high volume of documents
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and county regulations while maintaining strict confidentiality of matters being handled.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Associate degree or higher in Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, Business Technology, or a related field
• No prior experience necessary but a experience in clerical support in an executive or law office setting is a plus
• Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered
• Experience with Georgia Open Records Act and Georgia and Federal Civil Discovery laws a plus
• Prior experience in a government or public service setting preferred
