Assistant Solicitor-General
The Douglas County Office of the Solicitor-General has an opening for a Domestic Violence Prosecutor. DV Prosecutor handles criminal cases involving intimate partner violence, stalking, and family abuse, focusing on victim safety and offender accountability.
The following duties include, but are not limited to:
- the investigating and preparing cases for trial.
- reviewing case reports and analyzing the facts and evidence of the case
- drafting accusations, preparing discovery, and researching potential defenses,
- researching and interpreting relevant case law and writing case summaries, preparing briefs and motions and responses to same.
- Arguing all pretrial and post-trial motions. Developing trial strategy including opening and closing statements.
- Negotiating pleas to dispose of cases. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff.
- Manages caseload: attends scheduled court appearances, including plea and arraignment, status, case management, final plea, motions, and trial calendar.
- Working with trial team investigators to coordinate evidence for trial. Interview law enforcement, witnesses, victims, experts and others regarding cases.
- Working with victims to ensure their safety and, often, acting as the primary point of contact to explain legal processes. Meeting with the Domestic Violence Task Force
- Strong trial advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills, with high attention to detail
- Must show an ability to communicate and work with the public, judges, office staff and court personnel.
Preferred Qualifications: A Juris Doctorate is required to be supplemented by one year(s) of experience in criminal prosecution or working with victims of abuse which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job is highly desirable. An Assistant Solicitor-General must be a member in good standing with the Georgia Bar. Candidate should be able to pass a criminal background check.
