Investigator - Trial Line

The Henry County District Attorney’s Office (Flint Judicial Circuit; approximately 30 minutes south of Atlanta) has an opening for an Investigator on our trial line. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

– Obtain necessary reports, photos, audio/video recordings, written statements, phone records, social media records, medical records, etc.
– Review files for probable cause and evidence of crimes committed. Identify witnesses. Review for potential issues in proving the case.
– Summarize case. Visit crime scene to obtain additional material, photos, or measurements, as needed. Ensure that required analysis of evidence has been completed. Prepare copies for defense attorneys in discovery. Obtain necessary criminal histories and obtain/execute search warrants when necessary.
– Meet with attorneys to review case files. Make recommendations regarding issues needing further investigation. Assist attorneys with witness and victim interviews; and assist in formulating case and courtroom strategies.
– Coordinate/communicate with law enforcement to obtain evidence, interview officers and deliver subpoenas to law enforcement officers.
– Coordinate/communicate with victims/witnesses. Interview witnesses/victims; hand-deliver subpoenas; conduct background checks on potential witnesses; locates witnesses that have moved or are resisting contact; and transport witnesses/victims to and from court, as needed.
– Attend court and participate in prosecution of cases: coordinate with attorneys, law enforcement, victims, and witnesses regarding testimony; ensure evidence and exhibits needed for court are properly prepared and made available; assist attorneys in presentation of the case in court; testify on investigative actions and findings; and assist in presentation of exhibits in court.
– Participate in tactical teams; participate in team actions to serve subpoenas, search warrants, and arrest warrants; attend practice and training sessions; maintain assigned equipment; attend specialized tactical training programs; make arrests when required; and serve on protection details for witnesses, victims, and staff, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field required; supplemented by five years of experience in criminal investigation in assigned office; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be a current P.O.S.T certified Georgia Peace Officer. Applicants must also demonstrate proficiency with a firearm and possess a valid Georgia Driver’s license.

All candidates are subject to a background check. Applicants selected for hire will be subject to fingerprinting, a criminal history background check, a motor vehicle driver’s history check and pre-employment drug screening. Employment is contingent upon the completion and satisfactory results of each investigation.
