Georgia Department of Driver Services
Attorney III
The Georgia Department of Driver Services (Department) is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Assistant General Counsel (AGC). Under supervision of the General Counsel and the Deputy General Counsel, the AGC:
– Actively participates in advising the Department’s executive team with respect to the laws, regulations, and court decisions related to the operation of the Department.
– Interprets and gives advice regarding the administration of Georgia’s Driver’s License laws.
– Plan and assists with the work of Department staff by providing a variety of legal services.
– Drafts and reviews contracts associated with Department business.
– Receives and complies with requests submitted under the Open Records Act.
– Conduct trainings throughout the state for judges, law enforcement, judicial staff, and attorneys.
– During the state’s legislative session, the AGC reviews and provides impact analysis on proposed legislation applicable to the Department.
The AGC must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with other Department managers.
This is an in-office position.
Competencies Needed:
Knowledge of motor vehicle laws and regulations is preferred.
Minimum Qualifications:
-Juris Doctorate from an accredited college or university and license to practice law in the State of Georgia or eligibility to sit for the next Georgia Bar examination followed by Georgia Bar exam passage and licensure to practice law in the State of Georgia within one (1) year of hiring or reciprocity AND two (2) years of relevant legal – experience; or two (2) years of experience required at the lower-level Attorney 2 (LEP021).

Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, have:
