Supervising Assistant Solicitor General

The Gwinnett Solicitor-General’s Office is currently accepting resumes for a Supervising Assistant Solicitor General in the Recorders Court Division assigned to Traffic Division. Principal duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

•Supervising Assistant Solicitor Generals in the courtroom to ensure the orderly process of case management, handling complex and difficult cases, and trying assigned case(s) in Recorders Court
•Supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, and completing employee performance appraisals.
•Assisting and supervising in developing trial strategy; organizing opening and closing arguments; presenting evidence at trial.
•Drafting accusations; evaluating and researching potential defenses; dismissing cases that are not prosecutable, as needed.
•Evaluating cases submitted by law enforcement; reading police reports; determining whether further investigation is needed; approving or returning cases for more work; researching alternative crimes; reading and researching case law.
•Working with Recorders Court team to coordinate witnesses and evidence for trials; gathering and labels evidence. Interviewing law enforcement officials, witnesses, victims, experts, and others regarding cases.
•Through leadership and example, influences the Assistant Solicitors Generals in a positive and efficient manner by promoting consistency in sentencing recommendations, completion of discovery in a timely manner, assistance in duty officer calls and other forms of advice, a good working relationship with other staff members, and present productive and positive morale among the legal staff.
•In the event of the absence of the Solicitor General, Chief Assistant Solicitor General, the Senior Supervising Assistant Solicitor General shall be present in the courthouse or immediately available.
•Perform related work as required.

Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate must be a licensed member in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, supplemented by at least three (3) years of previous experience that include litigation and criminal law, with an emphasis on prosecutorial work or comparable felony trial experience. Must be able to multitask and work under occasionally stressful time constraints.

The successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written; must be detail-oriented; strong organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; must be able to work well in a team environment, while at the same time have the ability to work independently; must demonstrate a strong sense of personal responsibility and leadership skills, as well as a commitment to serving the community and working with the public.
