Ogeechee Judicial Circuit
Legal Assistant
The District Attorney’s Office in the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit is accepting resumes for the position of Legal Assistant.
Position Overview:
The Legal Assistant provides comprehensive administrative and legal support to Assistant District Attorneys and plays a critical role in court preparation, scheduling, document processing, and case management within the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit. This role is vital to the success of the prosecution team, requiring someone who is highly organized, communicates effectively, and can manage sensitive information in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Case & Document Management:
•Create, update, and manage case files in Tracker.
•File all legal motions, orders, subpoenas, and correspondence in Peach Court and maintain physical and digital files.
•Prepare legal documents including bond forfeiture judgments, subpoenas, motions, notices, and court production orders.
•Handle reciprocal discovery and prepare plea recommendations.
Court Support:
•Attend court sessions as needed to support assigned attorney/judge; update Tracker with outcomes and follow-up documentation.
•Prepare documentation and materials for arraignments, trials, and grand jury sessions.
•Draft and submit grand jury presentments, bench warrants, and subpoenas.
Communication & Liaison:
•Coordinate with law enforcement, Clerk’s Office, and probation departments.
•Distribute subpoenas, notices, and court orders to appropriate parties.
•Communicate regularly with Judges’ offices to process documents for signature and court processing.
Administrative Support:
•Run criminal histories (if GCIC certified).
•Maintain compliance with procedures for juvenile and incarcerated defendants.
•Ensure timely scanning and filing of both open and closed case documents.
•Answer phones and assist visitors
Required Skills & Qualifications:
•Strong organizational and time management skills
•Attention to detail
•Excellent written and verbal communication
•Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
•Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
Additional Information:
•This position requires a background check, drug testing and may require a valid driver’s license.
•This position is in our Effingham County office in Springfield, GA.
Preferred Qualifications:
•Paralegal certificate from an accredited program.
•Experience using Tracker, Peach Court, or similar systems.
•GCIC certification.
•Notary Public in Georgia
