Victim Witness Advocate

The Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia is seeking an experienced Victim Advocate for the Legal Services Department. Under direct supervision of the Deputy Director, provides intake and administrative support services to victims; acts as a liaison between victim and service providers.  As the cases prosecuted by the conflict team will be statewide, travel will be required. The following duties are normal for this position; other duties may be required and assigned:

  • Knowledge of the judicial process with respect to victims’ rights and case process advising of available resources based on the Victim Bill of Rights.
  • Makes early contact with the victim and provides crisis intervention and emotional support through the process.
  • Assesses the victim’s needs, referring to appropriate area services, assisting with appointment making, etc. and arranging ancillary services when deemed appropriate.
  • Prepares victim and witnesses for legal and social service experiences he/she will encounter, translating actions and terms into understandable and comfortable to the victim.
  • Introduces and familiarizes victim/witness with the court process, assists and encourages involvement in the case, acts as a liaison between the secondary victims and systems they encounter.
  • Attends Court when necessary. Acts as an advisor to the Court on the Victim’s behalf and works with secondary victims in the case.
  • Follows up on service to the victim/witnesses, acting as a clearinghouse for agencies involved. Assists with filing victim impact statements and victim compensation forms.
  • Provides assistance with data entry information, application, document collection for restitution and Crime Victim Compensation Applications.
  • Makes sure contact information and the physical location of the victim is maintained and accurate for continuation of services.
  • Provides administrative support for the Credentialing Program.
  • Provides administrative support for the Crisis Response Team and its annual training conference.
  • Provide administrative support for the Quarterly Directors Meetings.
  • Provides administrative support for the Fundamentals of Victim Advocacy annual training.
  • Experience working with prosecutors and law enforcement are preferred.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.  Note: An equivalent combination of education and job specific experience that provided the knowledge, experience and competencies required to successfully perform the job at the level listed may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications (if any): Associate’s Degree in Social Work or related field required; two years of experience in criminal justice, law enforcement, social justice, or related field; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Salary Range: $29,771.99-$60,106 (commensurate with experience)
